Компания Vodafone 6 ноября объявила о сделке стоимостью 1,4 млрд. фунтов стерлингов ($2,2 млрд.) в результате которой она получит контроль над крупнейшим в ЮАР оператором мобильной связи Vodacom, сообщает Financial Times.
Крупнейший в мире мобильный оператор по критерию прибыли, как ожидается, использует Vodacom для дальнейшей экспансии в Африке, поскольку он ищет новые рынки для роста.
Vodafone уже принадлежит 50% акций Vodacom. Владельцем остальных акций является Telkom, крупнейший в ЮАР оператор стационарной телефонной связи.

Vodafone договорился, что заплатит Telkom 1,3 млрд. фунтов за 15% ее пакета акций Vodacom. Кроме того, Vodafone возьмет на себя 100 млн. фунтов чистого долга Vodacom, что увеличит стоимость сделки до 1,4 млрд. фунтов.

Vodacom is the leading cellular network in South Africa with an estimated market share of 58% and more than 23 million customers. Other network operators in the South African market include MTN and Cell C. Virgin Mobile is an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator).
Vodacom provides coverage to Mount Kilimanjaro, which used to make it the highest point in the world to be covered by GSM. It no longer is, as China Mobile now provides coverage at the top of Mt. Everest, the highest point in the world. Vodacom was aided by its optimistic advertisements at the early stages of the democratic South Africa, this includes the yebo gogo campaign which is still in effect today in South Africa.
